Type History · com.coco.typehistory
In short: Your typing history and clipboard history recorded by Type History are stored only on this device. They are not uploaded to a server or synced, and they do not leave the device unless you copy, share, or export them yourself. Masked password fields are not recorded. However, this app shows Google AdMob ads, sends usage statistics and crash reports through Firebase, and checks Premium purchases with Google Play. So the app uses an internet connection to show ads, send usage statistics and crash reports, check purchases, and open this policy page from inside the app, and your advertising ID is used for ads. The contents of your typing history and clipboard history are not part of that traffic.
1. Information the App Handles
Type History has no account, no login, and no server of its own. The information the app handles is as follows.
- Typing history — stored on your device only (not transmitted): Through the Accessibility Service, the app reads text you type into text fields in other apps and saves it in a local database on this device, together with the app name and package name, a timestamp, and a field identifier (the view ID or the type of on-screen element). This information is not sent to any server.
- Masked password fields — not recorded: Masked password fields are not recorded.
- Clipboard history — only if you turn it on, stored on your device only (not transmitted): Clipboard history is off by default. If you turn it on in Settings, text you copy in other apps is saved in the local database on this device, together with the name and package name of the app you copied from and a timestamp. If you also turn on "Record images too", images you copy are saved in the app's private storage (up to 10 MB each). Copies are recorded only when the app detects a copy button being tapped or a "Copied" notice appearing, so not every copy is recorded. Clips that the source app marks as sensitive are not read. Other text you copy may be recorded regardless of what it contains.
- App settings — stored on your device only: Settings such as your retention period, excluded apps, whether clipboard history is on, and whether PIN lock and biometric unlock are on are kept in the app's private storage. Your PIN is not stored as plain text; only a SHA-256 hash with a random salt is stored.
- List of installed apps — used on the device only: To let you choose excluded apps and to show app names and icons next to your history, the app looks up, on the device, the list of apps that have a home-screen icon. This list is not transmitted.
- Purchase status — stored on your device: Purchase status information, such as whether you have bought Premium, the purchase time, when the purchase status was last checked, and the time of first launch (used to calculate the welcome offer period), is kept in the app's private storage. Payment details such as your payment method are handled by Google Play; the app does not handle them.
- Advertising data — collected by Google AdMob (sent to a server): To serve ads, the AdMob SDK may collect and use device identifiers such as the advertising ID, approximate location, and app interaction data. See section 4 below.
- Usage and diagnostic data — collected by Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics (sent to a server): To improve the app and keep it stable, the app sends usage events (figures such as how often a feature was used, which settings are on, or whether a purchase was completed) and crash reports. The contents of your typing history and clipboard history, and the app you typed in or copied from (package name), are not included in these events. See section 4 below.
- Feedback email — only when you send one: Tapping "Send feedback" in Settings opens your email app with the app version, device model, Android version, and language filled into the message. If you send the email, the developer receives its contents and your email address. Your history is not added to the email automatically.
- Permissions not requested: The app does not request contacts, photos and media, location, microphone, or camera permissions.
2. Use of the Accessibility Service
Type History uses the Android Accessibility Service for its core feature, saving the text you type in other apps on your device so you can find and copy it again later, and, if you turn it on, for clipboard history.
- What it reads (typing history): From text change events (
TYPE_VIEW_TEXT_CHANGED), the app reads the text in the field, the package name of the app you are typing in, and the field identifier (the view ID or the type of on-screen element), and records the time. The app name is looked up on the device from the package name. A field's hint or label is checked only to tell whether it is a password field and is not stored.
- What it reads (when clipboard history is on): To detect copies, the app also receives click, notification (such as a "Copied" notice), and window change events. The text and descriptions of tapped buttons and notifications are used only to tell whether a copy happened and are not stored. Window change events are used to find the package name of the app you are using, so the app can tell which app you copied from and apply your excluded apps. When a copy is detected, the app reads the clipboard. On Android 10 and later, only the app that has focus on screen can read the clipboard, so the app briefly opens a small invisible window using the Accessibility Service permission and closes it right away. A system notice such as "Type History pasted from your clipboard" may appear at that moment. When clipboard history is off, these extra events are not received.
- Where it is stored: What is read is saved only in the local database on this device (images in the app's private storage). It is used only so that you can look it up, search it, edit it, and copy, share, or delete it in the app.
- Not transmitted: The text read through the Accessibility Service, together with its app name and package name, timestamp, and field identifier, and the content you copy are not sent to any server and are not included in ads, statistics, or crash reports.
- When nothing is recorded: Masked password fields, apps you have excluded, and Type History's own screens are not recorded. Nothing is recorded while the Accessibility Service is off.
- No actions on your behalf: The app does not click, scroll, navigate, or fill in forms for you. It declares no gesture capability (
canPerformGestures) and no key event filtering.
- Notice and consent before use: The Accessibility Service works only after you turn it on yourself. When you turn it on from the app, the app first shows an "Accessibility service notice" screen explaining what it reads and where it is stored, and opens the accessibility settings only if you tap "Agree & open settings". Clipboard history also shows its own notice before it is turned on.
- How to turn it off: Turning off the "In use" switch in the app's Settings turns off the Accessibility Service, and new typing is no longer saved. You can also turn off Type History in Android Settings > Accessibility. Clipboard history can be turned off separately in the app's Settings.
- Type History is an app for finding again what you yourself typed or copied on your own device. It has no feature that retrieves information from another person's device, and no feature that restores messages deleted by someone else.
3. Permissions We Request
- Accessibility Service: Read the text you type in other apps and save it on this device (core feature). If clipboard history is on, also used to detect copies and read the clipboard.
- Internet (INTERNET) and network state (ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE): Used to show ads, send usage statistics and crash reports, check Google Play purchases, and open this policy page from inside the app. Your typing history and clipboard history are not included in that traffic, and the recording and recovery features work without an internet connection.
- Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Used to send one notification 24 hours before the welcome offer (a discount limited to the first 7 days after first launch) ends. On Android 13 and later, the app asks once during the welcome offer period and does not ask again if you decline. The notification does not contain any of your history.
- Google Play billing (com.android.vending.BILLING): Used to buy Premium and to restore and check purchases.
- Advertising ID (AD_ID) and ad services permissions (ACCESS_ADSERVICES_*): Declared by the Google AdMob SDK and the Firebase Analytics SDK for ad serving and measurement and for usage statistics.
- Install referrer (BIND_GET_INSTALL_REFERRER_SERVICE): Declared by Google SDKs to check where the app was installed from (for example, Google Play).
- Biometrics (USE_BIOMETRIC, USE_FINGERPRINT): When the PIN lock is on, biometrics are used to unlock the app if your device supports them (you can turn this off with "Use biometric unlock" in Settings). Biometric data is handled by the Android system; the app only receives whether authentication succeeded.
- WAKE_LOCK, FOREGROUND_SERVICE: WAKE_LOCK is declared by WorkManager and the Firebase Analytics SDK, and FOREGROUND_SERVICE by WorkManager. The app uses WorkManager to schedule the welcome offer notification.
- Querying installed apps (apps with a home-screen icon): Used for the excluded apps list and to show app names and icons. Used on the device only.
4. Third-Party Services
Type History uses the following third-party services.
- Google AdMob: Serves native ads on the home, per-app history, and record version screens, and an app-open ad shown when you open or return to the app. AdMob may collect and use device identifiers such as the advertising ID, approximate location estimated from your IP address, and app interaction and diagnostic data to serve relevant ads and measure them; this information is provided to Google. Premium users are not shown ads. See the Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
- Firebase Analytics: Collects usage events so the developer can see how the app is used. Events the app sends contain only figures such as counts, on/off values, and setting values; the contents of your typing history and clipboard history and the package name of the target app are not included. Whether the Accessibility Service and PIN lock are on is also sent as user properties. Separately, Firebase Analytics may automatically collect information such as an app instance ID, the advertising ID, device model and OS version, approximate region such as country, screen views, and in-app purchases. See Privacy and Security in Firebase and the Google Privacy Policy.
- Firebase Crashlytics: Collects crash reports and diagnostic information (where the error occurred, device model and OS version, an installation identifier, and similar data) to improve app stability. Reports also include the names and figures of the Analytics events above that the app logged just before the error, and whether the Accessibility Service and PIN lock are on. The contents of your typing history and clipboard history are not included. See Privacy and Security in Firebase.
- Google Play billing: Handles buying the Premium lifetime pass and restoring and checking purchases. Payment is processed by Google Play; the app stores purchase status information on the device, such as whether you have bought Premium, the purchase time, and when the purchase status was last checked. See the Google Privacy Policy.
- GitHub Pages: This privacy policy page is served by GitHub Pages. When you open the policy from the app, the page is loaded from there, and GitHub's servers may process connection information such as your IP address. See the GitHub General Privacy Statement.
- Your typing history and clipboard history are not sent to any third party, including AdMob, Firebase, Google Play, and GitHub.
- You can reset or delete your advertising ID in the Ads menu of Android Settings (depending on the device, Google > Ads or Privacy > Ads).
5. How Information Is Used
The typing history and clipboard history stored on your device are used only so that you can look them up, search them, edit them, copy, share, or delete them, and export them to a file from within the app. The developer has no access to this history. The developer does not sell information obtained through this app.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
- Automatic deletion: Records older than your retention period are deleted automatically. The period is counted from the time you last typed in a typing history record, and from the time you copied for clipboard history. Cleanup runs when the Accessibility Service turns on and every 6 hours while it is on, and when you open the app's home screen or change the retention period. So if the Accessibility Service is off and you do not open the app, expired records may remain on the device. The default is 7 days. In the free version you can choose 1 day, 3 days, or 7 days; with Premium you can also choose 30 days, 90 days, 180 days, or 1 year.
- Clipboard history: Clipboard history follows the same retention period, except that in the free version copies are kept for up to 7 days after you copy them. If copied images take up more than 300 MB in total, images not kept forever are deleted, oldest first.
- Keep forever (Premium): Records marked "Keep forever" are excluded from automatic deletion and remain until you delete them yourself.
- Manual deletion: You can delete records one by one, or delete your typing history and clipboard history at once with "Delete all history" in Settings. To also delete records kept forever, select "Also delete records kept forever".
- Stopping recording: Turning off the "In use" switch in Settings (which turns off the Accessibility Service) stops new typing from being recorded. You can also add specific apps to "Excluded apps", or turn off only clipboard history.
- Export and import (Premium): You can export your typing history to a file. The file contains the original text you typed, the app name and package name, timestamps, and field identifiers without encryption, and it is saved only to the location you choose. Type History does not send this file to any server. Exported files are not deleted when you uninstall the app, so please manage them yourself.
- Uninstalling: Removing the app deletes the history and settings stored on the device. There is no copy on any server, so no separate deletion request process is needed. Information collected by Google (AdMob and Firebase) is retained according to each provider's policy.
- App lock: A PIN lock with optional biometric unlock keeps your history closed even if you hand your device to someone for a moment.
7. Children's Privacy
This app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
